Reclaim Your Kitchen
The goal of Reclaim Your Kitchen is to reignite the joy of baking and cooking at home using local, seasonal, wholesome ingredients by offering practical, simple, and nourishing suggestions to create kitchen and eating routines.
The kitchen is my space. I thrive there. Exploring farmers’ markets, being creative with my practices, including experimenting with alternative ingredients, and choosing specialty and heritage flours. All these transform the space from a place where food is simply warmed and a landing for take-out, to a place where the body and soul are nourished and the mind can unplug.
But these practices are not just confined here. I have sprinkled my small modern-day suburban tract house yard with garden beds and pots. Here in this wondrous extension of my kitchen, I snip herbs, cut leafy greens, and pluck juicy strawberries from the vine that I delight in as I wander about. This space allows me to soak up the morning sun, run my fingers through the dirt, and hear the birds chatter.
I often catch myself yearning for a larger garden, but it is also magical to tend a small space where pots of kale, basil, celery, and garlic are woven into the existing landscape. It seems there is always something ready to be harvested around the corner, even if it is just enough for small-batch cooking.
We nurture our souls and our health not only by what we eat but also by how we eat. When we slow down, cook with intention, and engage with our ingredients, cooking becomes a transformative practice rather than a chore. Inviting artisans, makers, growers, and bakers into your life allows a small part of their story to weave with yours.
It is never too late to reclaim your kitchen. To return to cooking and baking from scratch and find the harmony your body yearns for.
Give yourself the gift of nourishing foods. Give yourself permission to slow down, unplug, and get lost in the process of scratch-made treats and meals.
In Reclaim Your Kitchen, we will discuss sourcing ingredients, pantry items, organizing the kitchen space, and establishing kitchen routines, and share recipes using alternative ingredients…all while keeping it simple and sustainable.
It is not just about the mat. It is about how we entwine intention through the fabric of our lives.
